Getting Over Being Fired

Posted By on July 5, 2011

Many people are reeling after the companies that they have invested their lives in have decided that paying their salaries was a drain on company finances. Although this can seem like a slap in the face after all your hard work, it is important to remain calm, and try to keep your office trashing tendencies confined to the realm of your imagination.

The sad truth is, many people who thought they had safe, secure jobs, are having to deal with the fact that many longstanding companies are starting to go under. The economy still hasn’t recovered, jobs are still being lost, and new technology is making some people’s jobs obsolete. Many people’s jobs are being outsourced, or given to younger recruits with less real life experience, but more technical training.

Despite the dark and gloomy forecast, however, many people are finding that being laid off doesn’t have to be as terrible as it sounds. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you have to jump for joy when your boss tells you to clear out your desk, but it should give you some hope that your being let go from your job isn’t the end of the world.

Some people have decided to study for another field of work. Maybe it was something they dreamed of doing as a kid, or maybe it just pays more than their former line of work. For example the founder of the beauty company no no hair removal, when he was laid off from his VP position at a large pharmaceutical company, decided to start his own online beauty and hair removal store. That was 5 years ago and now with profits of over $250 million a year, the rest as they say is history.

You may have been thinking of switching fields, even before you lost your job, but you probably wouldn’t have the time to study and work full-time, so you likely pushed it aside for a later date when you would have the time. Well, the time is now! Study for that dream job and take control of your career path.

Other people have taken the skills they have learned, through years of hard work and experience, to start their own business. Others have built businesses around their hobbies, whether it was crafts, baking, or another area of interest to them. These people live some of the most satisfying lives; getting paid to do what they love.

If you have a fondness for imparting wisdom, you might want to consider private tutoring. You probably have a skill set that some people would pay good money to get trained in. If you have experience as a trainer in your former workplace, this makes you even more qualified for the job. Or, maybe you are fluent in a foreign language. Many people would pay a lot for someone to teach them how to read and speak a foreign language fluently. All these things are nearly impossible to learn from a book, and more and more people are realizing this and looking for people who can teach them first hand.

If you have found, after spending some time off work, that you really enjoy being around your family and children, and you hadn’t realized that you missed their company so much, then you might consider getting a part time or full time job working online. There are thousands of employers that are looking for qualified workers to work from home and complete various tasks. This kind of work gives you the opportunity to make your own schedule, earn money, and be around for your children as they are growing up.

There is a myriad of opportunities for those who are recently unemployed. You just need to look in the right places; which can sometime be unexpected places. If you put your mind to it, and don’t give up even when things look bleak, you will eventually find a line of work that fits your needs perfectly.
